Hi JillyAn, this article is very interesting. I personally think that leaky gut is caused by abnormal refined sugar and starch intake, which cause for an increase in yeast. I don't think eating a bunch of genetically modified food helps either... I'm going to send this article to a friend of mine that takes antibiotics at the first sign of any slight discomfort, since they think this may also be a culprit. Maybe I can scare her out of doing that (smile)!
From all the research I did for this article, I gather that most experts on the subject believe yeast is a big contributor. Of course we all know that sugar contributes to yeast in the body. But if you go to the dr. for a hangnail they want to start pushing antibiotics down your throat. I think we'd all be a lot healthier if we avoided sugar and anything that turns to sugar and faitfully supplemented our diets with probiotics and alkaline yiedling foods. But, I'm bad too...I need my sugar fix now and then. I just take care that it's sugar and HFCS! I really need to go back to eating completely vegan but it's so hard when cooking, photographing and writing about food is your JOB..LOL
